Sizakele Gumede

Sizakele Gumede is a master’s degree student at the University of Cape Town. She is writing a thesis on Harriette Colenso (1847-1932) focusing on her as a political activist during the period of the reign of King Dinuzulu (1884 -1913). Harriette Colenso was the daughter of John William Colenso (1814-1883), the first Bishop of the Church of England in Natal during the mid-1850s. When the Bishop died, Harriette took over his responsibilities, including that of the defence of the Zulu people.
