Catherine Elliott Weinberg

Catherine Elliott Weinberg is currently a PhD student at the Sainsbury Research Unit, University of East Anglia. She is writing a thesis based on her ongoing research into the South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland collections at the British Museum, London. Her project involves first-hand study of the Museum’s reserve collections and documentation, as well as of archival material held elsewhere.

Prior to taking up her doctoral studies, Catherine was a collections assistant within the Africa section of the Department of Africa, Oceania and the Americas at the British Museum. She holds a Masters degree in Museum Studies from University College London and previously worked mainly with African art in Johannesburg, and later in London, following her Fine Arts and Masters studies at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.

Catherine is a contributor to the forthcoming Archive & Public Culture and Johannesburg Art Gallery collaborative publication, which forms part of APC’s ongoing project entitled Ethnologised Pasts and their Archival Futures. She looks forward to continued engagement with APC projects.
